CVT vs. Quattro
I currently own a 2004 B6 A4, my boss is looking into purchasing a 2005 A6 and wants to know the difference between the two (besides the obvious "Quattro") I don't really know too much about the A6, any info would be helpful. Oh yeah, not much snow in So Cal., is quattro really needed dry conditions.
Thanks in advance.

hope this helps....
From what I understand, CVT is a transmission and Quattro is a drivetrain. CVT constantly changes the effective gear ratio to give you the best performance and economy on demand. It is usually used in front wheel drive applications. Quattro is a drivetrain where all 4 wheels get power depending on the grip that is available. It could also be used with a CVT transmission.
Do you need Quattro? Probably not. Does it make for a safer, better handling car in extreem conditions? Yes. Remember that rain is not the only cause of extreem conditions. Your friend may have to swerve violently to avoid an accident. Quattro will help the car recover from this so that your friend can look like a hero instead of a zero.
I have never owned a car that didn't have all-wheel-drive of some kind--Mitsubishi, Subaru, and now Audi. I think it is worth the money.

Each model has a slightly different equipment matrix. See A6 model guide

If you ride mainly on city roads, take the CVT, if not...
...take the Quattro.
Here a comparison of Audis' CVT (Multitronic)in Drive and Sport Mode (it's not the 3.2FSI)...
Search on GoogleVideo for "juhuuh" and you'll get more videos about the A6

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2754812061733296913</a

Re: CVT vs. Quattro
I own the CVT A6.
Good transmission and no complains.
Good fuel economy and you don't experience slipage like a normal auto.
The 7 speed CVT is excellent, gives you close gear gaps..
The CVT has better 0-60 than an Auto. Looses to stick Manual though.
Love it
