Not being a smoker, I had never really paid attention to it before. This weekend, I needed to plug a 12V adapter in and noticed that the lighter in the compartment beside the MMI controls seems to be a stub. (2005 A6) It has the emblem for a cigarette lighter but only pushes down just a little bit but never pops out.

I did find the outlet beneath the arm rest but was wondering if others have a "fake lighter stub" there. The lighter in the passenger compartment is real so I'm not sure if this is a real one and just jammed in, or whether it's a factory plug which can only be removed by qualified service folks.

Doesn't really bother me either. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a "live" lighter stuck in the down position.

2005 a6, mine actually is a cigarette lighter. I did have it replaced since the original unit would not heat up.

mine is a blow torch

had to get a fuse replaced for it to work and the dealer recommended using the one under the arm rest for non-lighter work.
