Default Cat/O2 sensor issue

Last Dec I got a check engine light - scanned the car and it turned out to be Bank 2 oxygen sensor related issue : below is the error.

001072 - Catalyst System; Bank 2: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0430 - 006 - Short to Plus - Intermittent - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 10100001
Fault Priority: 5
Fault Frequency: 3
Reset counter: 40
Mileage: 113518 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2010.12.23
Time: 10:40:10

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 2368 /min
Mass Air / Rev.: 381.5 mg/str
Temperature: 90.0°C
Part Throttle
Temperature: 792.0°C
Speed: 117.0 km/h

Readiness: 0000 0000

Since then (last week) I replaced the Bank 2 (driver side - which is the side where the coolant tank is located in the hood) oxygen sensors. I replaced both the pre-cat and post-cat oxygen sensor. However, I my MIL light came on again yesterday. The exact error code is:

1 Fault Found
001072 - Catalyst System; Bank 2: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0430 - 006 - Short to Plus - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 10100001
Fault Priority: 5
Fault Frequency: 3
Reset counter: 40
Mileage: 120575 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2011.04.23
Time: 17:06:39

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 1856 /min
Mass Air / Rev.: 436.0 mg/str
Temperature: 91.5°C
Part Throttle
Temperature: 728.0°C
Speed: 72.0 km/h

Readiness: 0000 0000

Any knows how I should go about diagnosing this issue further? Gas mileage has increased (got 27mpg combined (50% city+hwy) - wow). No rotten egg smell either.

Help!

thanks badziewo! Are you basing this on the fact that since the pre and post cat o2 sensors have been replaced - it has to be the cat converter?

Anyone replaced their cat converter yet? any diy/tips?

audipartsnationwide.com has this part for $805. ecstuning has a univeral cat converter for c6 for $100 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-C6_A6-...ew_All/ES4388/)

any other place to buy this part?

ok, here are my findings:

- It is illegal to sell a used cat converter
- Fed regulations make auto companies give a 8 year/80k miles warranty on cat converters. (http://www.epa.gov/obd/pubs/420f09048.pdf)

Since I have 75k miles on my car, I should be covered under warranty. Have an appt with the dealer this week - cost for this outside of warranty would probably be $2-2.5k ($1k for part alone).

Yup, a bad cat converter will be covered by the mandatorey EPA warranty on all vehicles sold in the US.

only until 8 years or 80k miles. After that you are on your own with the big repair bills.

Update: My car is at the dealer. They are replacing the part under warranty.

Found a DIY on O2 sensor and Cat replacement: http://www.passatworld.com/forums/61...placement.html

I can confirm that the O2 sensor instructions are the same as on our C6. Our post cat O2 sensor (3.2 engine) can be reached from the engine hood - no need to get under the car.
