Blown Variable Intake Vacuum Actuator
Looks like the drivers side variable intake vacuum actuator has failed on my 3.2. Does anyone know of a source for a new vacuum actuator or has a lower intake assembly they want to sell? Ebay has used one for $240 but that seems steep. Thanks!

Welp, I have an idea on how to resolve this issue. I'm inspired by this video I found:
Since Ive got nothing to lose on this one, I'm going to disassemble the vacuum actuator and see if I can do a lasting repair to the diaphragm. I will post my results.

If you are asking about the vacuum actuator on the lower intake, you would need to replace the complete lower intake assembly (P/N 06E133126K), which sells new for $286.44 at www.genuineaudiparts.com. The actuator is not sold separately. That actuator on the driver's side also failed on my 2006 A6 Avant, so I ended up replacing it. Since I had to disassemble the intake to access, I also removed the passenger side lower intake and de-carbonized the intake valves/diverter plates, which required the following additional parts:
* Lower manifold seals, 06E-198-717-A
* Upper intake manifold seals, 06E-129-717-B
* Upper O-ring seal (blue) for all injectors (part of repair kit), 06E-998-907-G
* PCV O-ring seal, 06E-133-148-A

The actuator will not function when vacuum is applied with a manual vacuum pump. I can only surmise the diaphragm is compromised. I will be disassembling the unit to see if I can repair it before i go the route of replacing the entire lower intake assembly.

Can you actually see the servo? What are you looking at that doesn't move? Sometimes the arm breaks off the servo, an easy repair.

I can see as well as have already tested the unit with a hand vacuum pump. Normal operation, actuator should move the arm under vacuum. it will not hold any vacuum. I had the entire top end of the engine removed to fix a leaking engine breather cover gasket and intake valve cleaning:

That is how I detected the failure of my actuator - it wouldn't hold a vacuum, so I knew that the diaphragm had failed. There was no issue with the arm disconnected from the intake linkage.
