Default Big Leak, Big Problem

Finally got around to getting my oil loss issue checked out. I have a leak from where my transmission and motor meet. I am told its the rear main seal. If i'm going to get that replaced, i'm also going to get the main tranny seal replaced as well. Has anyone done this with their A6? If so, price, details, advice, etc. Thanks.

Ouch. Based upon your previous mails here and the Q5 forum, it's probably not something you are setup to tackle by yourself and it would be a couple of days work in a shop. I haven't cracked open my virtual repair manual, but imagine the procedure will go something like this:

Step 1 - remove front bumper
Step 2 - remove engine

Take it to your dealer or ask a good indy shop and they'll be able to give you a good ball park.

Default Compromise or Full In

It's decision time.

If the car's chassis and electronics are good and you love the car, invest in the RMS and do the chain tensioners/guides while you have the motor out.

Heck, I'd go as far as resealing/gasketing everything but the HG.

If that is really where your leak is, I agree completely...
