Just bought a CPO 2007 A6(4.2 S-Line) 43K miles in Northern NJ. I'm trying to get a clear picture around whether Audi Care is worth it ($840 best dealer asking price around here) or not. AC compared to next best cost for 55/65K checks from a non-dealer 'specialist' is a savings of $210.

Presume Audi approved parts are used:

Q1: If the exact work/checks listed by Audi for the sched. maint. isn't done, does that create a liability for CPO coverage?
Q2: What if I do the work myself? Does that create liability for CPO coverage?
Q3: How often and with how much scrutiny does a dealer/Audi check on sched. maint. not performed by a dealier?

My sense so far is that if you have to adhere very strictly to the letter of the sched maint lists as detailed by Audi to ensure CPO coverage, then AC seems like a necessary 'evil'. Otherwise, just another dealer scam.

AudiCare and best... you'll break even... at dealership pricing.

Q1) Any european indy shop can perform the checks in the manual, for the most part, as long as oil changes are done, that's the most important.
Q2) If you do the work yourself, document the hell out of it, personally what I always did was take it to a shop on the MUST do jobs, IE I'd have them do the oil at 15K, but I did it myself at 7.5K... Saves quite a bit of money that way, and meets the requirements... besides, the Audicare wont do it more often. (and personally, 15K IMHO is too high of milage, unless you drive all freeway miles).

Q3) Just keep your reciepts... most shops nowadays print out such detailed work orders, that you should have no problems.

Personally, I've found that indy shops did better work than my Audi dealer did.

Your car will warn you when you need maintenance, just follow the owners manual, and take the car into a well reviewed shop. Personally I think Audi Care is a rip off, and for the most part, you get about 3-4 Oil Changes for what, $800... even if you hit a "tune up", something my audi dealer claimed was an $800 job... and justified the cost of AudiCare alone hmmm... 6 spark plugs... and at worst a $100 oxygen sensor... that's a ripoff... and I've never heard of a waranty being denied from a tune up. Under federal law, they have to basically prove that the lack of the service caused the issue... IE an engine siezing because you didn't have your brakes checked isn't a vaild reason for them to drop coverage... but going 25K between oil changes... yup that'll work.

I got AudiCare on my new car lease in Northern NJ and i think it was around $550-$600. It was a no-brainer as it more than pays for itself even just following the bare minimum recommended service.
For me, i have a few Audi dealerships within a few miles, so I wasn't going to take the new car elsewhere for service.

I only bought it for my 2005 A4 Avant because of the 75K service that requires plugs, timing belt, and they changed my brake pads. I did not feel there was enough service for our 4.2liter Q7 besides your normal oil changes.
