I've been searching and have not been able to find a DIY for the transmission filter and fluid change. I found the kit on ECS Tuning for $600 for the filter, gasket and the fluid, now I want to see if I have the necessary skills, tools and time to do it before I make the purchase.

How difficult is it, would I need to remove exhaust pipes or any other parts in order to do this?

Do yourself a big favor finding out which fluid your car is running on (original vs new blue-ish syntheic). Do not use any Non-Audi fluid or else you will experience hard upshift/downshift problem.

The dealer said it is G060162A2 green fluid based on the VIN number.

That's not true at all. I have changed once in my 05 4.2 with Ford Mercon SP fluid and intend to do it again using the same Mercon fluid, Audi filter and gasket. About $80 for the gasket and $110 for the filter, which I think is highway robbery. Gasket shouldn't be over $10 and filter should be no more than $30. Anyway I had no real change in shifting. A slight increase in shift RPM was noticed right after, but now seems to have gone right back to where it was before the change to Mercon SP.

I wish I could get my transmission to shift harder. I'm wanting it to bang gears and not slip at all. Guess I'm used to the drag race transmissions where you want NO sliding into gear.
