Default Life of shocks for 2005 A6 C6

My car has about 117K miles. What is the average life of the shocks and about when does one need to replace them. They seem to be OK.
What is good place to buy these shocks that are reasonably priced?

With the weight of the vehicle and the age, as well as wear and tear, the shocks go on these pretty quick. I changed mine as soon as I bought it since the ride was a bit too soft, with little road feel.

For replacement, I would look at the Koni FSD or Bilstein HD, both have been discussed on this forum...with the slight edge going to the Koni's.

Raj, I agree.
The Bilsteins HD is $199 and rears are $115 each shipped.
Is that a good buy?

I have been very happy with the Koni FSDs. I would say that shocks have a life expectancy of approximately 60k miles on NYC metro roads.

Seems like ok prices...I know with Black Friday around the corner there are loads of places that will be offering 10% off, etc...

I've bought suspension stuff from: http://www.fcpeuro.com/Audi-parts/A6...06&m=20&e=2005

Check them out as well.

Your before and after will entirely depend upon the drop that you go for in the 'after'. If you simply replace the 'struts', with the likes of the Koni FSD the drop will be nominal and you will essentially get the same look as before.

If you go with a coil over setup, like I did, you will get a much lower look.

There's a bunch of threads here and other sites that show the differences.
