On our Audis, I use a MityVac hand-pumped pressure bleeder to change out the brake fluid. I don't use my VCDS to bleed the brake system and have never had a problem with this method.

I have changed my front calipers and the fluid ran dry.

Found this.
BLEED ABS PUMP

Procedure for Bleeding the ABS Brake Pump on VW Passat and Audi A4/S4, A6/S6, and A8/S8:

Ignition ON.

[Select]
[03 - ABS Brakes]

[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 002
[Go!]

This will trigger the ABS pump to turn on for about 10 seconds. You should hear the fairly loud pump clicking during this time.
Click the [Done, Go Back] button and you're all set.

Wondering what lead you to need to bleed the brakes? Have you opened the lines or let them run dry trying to bleed them?
