Looking for perhaps a used a6 Avant for my son. do all the V6 motors have timing belts or did they change to chains, if so what year did they go to chains. would hate to buy a used V6 then have to pay for the service

My 08 A6 Q 3.2 used chains. There is a easy way to find out whether the car is chain or bell. It is to check out the scheduled Audi maintenance for a specific car. If it used a bell, it would have a bell replacement in the schedule. There is no service for the chain.
