Default 2006 TPMS antenna location and replacement?

Can someone please give me the exact location of the antenna and replacement procedure? I know it's located near dome light but not sure if headliner needs to come down. Thanx

The antenna is located above & forward of the dome light. You access it by removing the dome light, and then you'll see it immediately forward of the dome light opening. If you got DTC #1521, then TSB #2011237 Rev. 3 resolves the problem. This DTC is caused by the antenna, which is mounted between two pieces of adhesive foam, falls over, which results is no signal being received from teh TPMS sesnors. This TSB affects the MY 2006 A6. If your antenna has fallen over, then a new bracket (P/N 4F0–907–526) & (4) pieces of Velcro patches fixes the problem. I had this issue on my 2006 A6 Avant, and installed the bracket. The Velcro patches sold by the dealer for this bracket are VERY strong, but they cost ~$5 ea.

I get intermittent code. Is there a simple way to locate which of four wheel gives me the issue? Do I need to check all of them one-by-one?

If you have VAG-COM, you can check the battery level of each sensor. But if the TPMS sensors in your '06 A6 Avant are the original units, then probably all four have died due to battery ffailure. If you are getting DTC 1521, the problem I identified above could also result in an intermittant code (as I found out). Check the antenna position and see if it has fallen down.

Has anyone confirmed if the TPMS sensors are dealer-only and there are no aftermarket options? My local dealer and independent tire store mentioned this but just wanted to double check before I invest $1K in new sensors. I believe I'll need to replace all 5 (including spare) @ $135/ea plus labor + tax.

That can't be true. I just bought a set of winter wheels/tires off another C6 owner. He got the wheels, tires and sensors mounted and balanced from Tirerack and as far as I know they work with the factory TPMS system. I haven't mounted them to the car yet to verify that they will sync, but they must.

Tirerack sells a set of 4 of the 433 MHz sensors and required valves for $308.

Do a search on the forum and you'll find your answer. Fwiw I bought my tpms units from titantpms over 2 years ago and they are still working great. Total cost of under $160 for all 4 sensors and great support. IMHO you can't go wrong at that price and the quality it's good for the 433mhz units.

Good luck

Thanks, I'll check them out - I did see those posts but noticed they were a few years old and saw some other posts that said some aftermarket sensors did not work for them. Wasn't sure why an independent tire store would claim they are dealer-only products.

I have a set of the following for both sets of wheels (summer and winter):

Set of 4 Sensors for Audi A6 2004-2011 - Chrome Stem (Titan TT-BE-007)

Any place will be able to install them and it takes about 5 seconds to sync from the car.
