Hoping to get some advice from you guys.


After searching for a long while, I finally found an S6 at CarMax that looked interesting. 2008, 50k miles, $25k. I had it transported here, and it should be with me in a few days.


Obviously given the potential service costs related to the car, I've been looking at the MaxCare warranty which adds another $3/4k to the price, but is claimed to be bumper to bumper for 5 years / 125k miles.


It seems to be the best way to get into the S6 with as little long term worry as possible.


I've read a lot by Doug DeMauro at Jalopnik about the MaxCare warranty and how strong he thinks it is, but wanted to get the impression of the guys here on the off-chance that someone else might have bought an S6 through CarMax and got the warranty. Also if anyone knows of any common problems with the S6 that might not be covered (I'm pretty sure the carbon deposits wouldn't be). I'd really appreciate a heads up.

I personally would skip the warranty, and put the money towards upgrades. But, I like to mod my cars. So, if you plan to keep it stock then maybe the warranty makes sense.

I actually read your info dump when I was doing my research.


I've owned a few performance cars over the last couple of years (CLK AMG, GC SRT8) and have got good use out of the warranty I had with them, so I think I'll stick with it, but do some light mods (exhaust for sure) in the short term.


Can't wait to hear start up on your build with the headers!!
