'06 4.2 versus '07 4.2?
For cost savings, I'm looking into an '06 4.2 with about 42,000 miles. Private party seller seems to be pretty much a "car guy" which I like. I'd much rather not go over $30K on this purchase, and that's hard on an '07 S line with Navi and the bigger engine.
Question: What will I be losing (except a shot at a warranty) for going with an '06 instead of an '07. I'm pretty much dead set on S Line (which the '06 is), the V8, and Navigation. What updates/upgrades occured on the 2007 model, that this '06 won't have?

you might want to check on when the 4.2 engine was turned into a fsi. I am not sure on the timeframe - someone else might want to chip in on that info.

What's New for 2007?
A new 4.2-liter V8 with direct injection and 350 horsepower, 325 torque debuts, as does a new overhead console and a digital speed indicator. Other changes for the 2007 Audi A6 include a standard trip computer for all trims, a rearview camera for the park assist system, available iPod integration and strangely, the deletion of active head restraints.
The 2006 V8 had 335 hp and a torque rating of 310 lb-ft.

Copy and paste if you want to see. Thoughts? Looks like solid deal, but not fantastic unless he comes off a few thousand.

Personally, I'd never buy an Audi except from an authorized dealer..but that's just my finicky self.

I was in the same boat as you. Needed an 06 or 07. Wanted a 4.2. I decided on an 06 4.2 that was loaded... had to have that power seat memory! I've very pleased with the non-FSI 4.2, but I have yet to try the FSI 4.2.

In 2005 and 2006 the 4.2 non-fsi 4.2 was named one of the 10 best engines on the planet by Wards. In 2007 the 4.2 engine dropped from 40 valves to 32 valves and Wards dropped it from their Top Ten list.
