Default P0455 - 2008 A6 4.2

I am getting a persistent P0455 on my 08 4.2. I thought I had found the problem, but I was mistaken. I tried to run the EVAP test on VAGCOM but I have not been able to get the test to the ready state. From searches, I have found the primary culprits as the gas cap (I don't think it's the cap), the vapor canister purge valve or leaks from the vapor lines. HAs anyone gone through the vapor lines from the fuel tank? I wasn't quite sure where to look for those. I am going to replace the purge valve since it is cheap and easy. I'll also get a fresh gas cap just to rule that out all the way too. Any other things to check/test that others know about?

Here is what the Bentley Repair Manual states for DTC P0455:

P0455 16839 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)

Evaporative Emissions System

Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve N80 , checking
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister system, checking for proper seal

thanks A6Gary. Do you have a Bentley book that covers the complete A6? I have been to bentleypublishers.com and I see a bunch of different A6 listings when I search. The only Bentley book I ever had was for a Mercedes and that one was really good. but it covered everything in 1 book. This is the search page.

When I acquired my 2006 A6 Avant in 2008, I purchased the Bentley Official Repair Manual that cover the Audi A6 & S6, 2005 thru 2008 on a DVD-ROM. The Bentley Stock Number for this manual is AC66. I know that Audi is not using Robert Bentley Publishers anymore to produce these repair manuals since Audi decided to market their own. If you want to get one of these repair manuals, my best guess would be to locate one on the secondary market, such as eBay (I found one for $25 + $5 shipping).

Thanks. I will keep looking on eBay. I didn't see any available at the moment. I did see this listing for a PDF version. Looks sketchy for $8.99. Anyone know anything about these "manuals"?

USPS had lost my valve from Amazon and ECStuning shipped my orings several days late. Both arrived today. The old purge valve (N80) did not hold a vacuum so that is pretty suspect. I replaced the orings on the VVT solenoids. All were brittle and snapped when I attempted to take them off. I had already replaced one of the solenoids that was leaking from my smoke test and that took care of my slight oil leak too. I reset the MIL and hopefully won't come back on now. I'll have to retry the EVAP test from VCDS. I could not get it to go t the ready state for the test. Maybe it needs that vacuum.

Looks like the purge valve fixed my problem. Was easy to replace and the MIL has not come back on. New orings on the VVTs has solved my small oil leak too so a win-win.
