winter tires for 18" Rims
I have a 98 A6 Q 2.8 with 18" rims. I really like the rims but tires are not so good.
What size of winter tires can I get on these things? currently I have 205 45/18 on them.
Thanks

I was faced with exactly the same dilema last Winter...
...and agree with the others; generally narrower is better. However, in my case, I wasn't willing to give up all of the reasons I bought an A6 in the first place: Speed, Handling, and Braking. With quattro, I felt much more confident in the A6's ability to get traction with a little wider tire. So, instead of a narrower Snow and Ice tire (like Blizzaks - which I've used on other cars in the past), I opted for a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D's in the stock size (235/40VR-18). We had an above average amount of snow last year (I live about 30 miles from the crest of the Cascades in Washington State) and I was more than satisfied with the perfomance of the tires. Plus, I lost nothing in the handling department when we had dry pavement in-between storms. Highly recommended, YMMV.

Does everyone have winter tires and rims on? Would allweather tires on stock rims be worth it? Or...
