When is it time to declare your car a "beater"?

It's always cheaper to keep her. That said, it's about what you want, not $.
Six months ago I considered getting out of my stock 2.7 with 140k. Considered an '04 2.7t or low mileage C6. In the end, I couldn't justify spending as much as 20k just for something newer. My 2.7t has issues, but I fix them (trustworthy Indy at $75 and hour) and move on. I love the car, so I decided to add 18's, shox/springs, refinish the headlamps, have all the dents and door dings taken out, and have the bumpers and mirrors are repaited. Love it more today. But if you lust for the sweet perfumed inner thigh of the S5 go for it.

See my sig, the Pontiac is an example of a beater car
I'd define a beater as something you can barely get to pass inspection with cost of major repairs that would most likely exceed what you paid for the car or what the car is currently worth. Beater only require basic insurance coverage and occassional cleaning (rainstorm :P)
I paid $750 for it 4 years ago & over the years it has become my favorite car. Minor repairs and maintenance has been inexpensive. I've sold the Audi and it's now my main car for now.

First, you need to know that you would get nowhere near the 13k kbb...
in a trade-in or a private party sale. My guess is trade-in will be between 7-9k. You may be able to pull 10k on private party with some luck, but I doubt it.
As for the oil problem. If you aren't noticeably losing it and/or you aren't leaving it on the garage floor, you don't have a problem.
As for the tranny linkage problems (if that is really what it is), I wouldn't worry either.
And as everyone else said, your dealer sucks. Dump him.
