Default When do you change the motor/trans mounts?

Can someone educate me about the mounts?

What signs do they give you when they go bad?

How many mounts on the A6?

Is this an expensive job?

Would putting RS4 mounts on a Tiptronic car make the car feel more harder?

Default when they fail...

OEMs have this purplish fluid in the mounts...or the engine will torque over and hit (you can hear it) something upon acceleration or letting up on the gas.

That being said, I didn't notice the front mount broken until the tech pulled the passenger head for a coolant leak (nused car...a previous headgasket repair had apparently crushed one of the hollow dowel pins Audi uses to locate heads on the block)..mount replaced under warranty.

Just curious - what was the Vag fault that indicated a broken mount?

Default Mine seemed ok when i pulled the trans 4 a rebuild @ 78k. I probably should have gone ahead&

replaced them but what the hell I didn't change the waterpump and t-stat when i changed the timing belt and i got to do it all over again 6 months later .... wouldn't want to miss the chance to spend lots of quality time taking her apart again ..... I think she just gets jealous of me riding the Beemer 2 wheeler all the time and does these things just to get back at me so ......... she'll bite me again!!!

Motor mounts are covered under CPO as well, FYI. This was a question I couldn't find a satisfactory answer to after searching AZ/AW, but when I took the car to the dealership they were covered under CPO.

I also have the "inferior" (post late 06/07, whenever they changed it) CPO which excludes things like CV boots, but I guess mounts are still covered.
