What is the small cylinder thing on top of the engine?
It's the 3.0L. I broke the tiny plastic hose connected to it from under.

If it's about 3" in diameter with a a couple of 1/2" pipes connected to it it's a PCV valve...this is off a 4.2 but...

Where the hose under it is connected to? I was unable pull it out due to the fear of breaking it. I will replace the hose if not that difficult to reach. Now it is reconnected, but not firm enough (the wider tip was broken off, so I put the narrower part into the flex hose between the regulator and the plastic hose).

The bottom hose goes back to the fuel tank...it's the return hose that bleeds off the pressure in the fuel rail.

It's a Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve....it meters crankcase fumes into the engine for recycling. I tore mine apart, couldn't find anything wrong with it, lengthened the spring which quieted it down somewhat, then gave up and put in a new one.
New one didn't make any noise.
Shop around for best price.
