Weird noise after CV boot repair/Axle replacement
I had to replace a passenger side front CV boot in my 04 A6, could not get the pinch bolt out so after wasting a few hours decided to tackle it the next weekend.
By then the joint was making clickie noises, so i just bought a whole new axle. Saw i did not need to take out the pinch bolt after forum search and I had enuf room to slide the axle out. Getting the new one in was tough, as the joints and boots were stiff, but all went well. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE OUT THE PINCH BOLT OR LOWER ARM ON THE A6 3.0 (2004)
Now, when I drive it, I hear what sounds like a brake dragging - there is a rubbing noise that gets louder as i let off the gas and coast. Does not seem to change much as I put on the brakes, so I do not think it is the pads.
What could cause a noise after an axle replacement?
Could the ABS sensor be damaged or rubbing?
I did not remove the sensor on taking the axle out, didnt read that I had too.
The sound is very similar the brake pads that have worn all the way down and rubbing on the rotor, but the pads are new.
Any ideas? Thanks, MoNaH

I had removed that on install
but, I did have a thought that maybe the shield might be hitting the new axle flange at the trans. There was a bit of play in that shield before tightening it down, maybe it needs to be raised a hair.
