Default Water on the front passenger side floor

This morning after an average night of rain fall I enter my car to find the front passenger side floor soaked through. I lifted up the rubber mat and carpet met to find the entire base of the floor soaked. Id do not live on low land so raind does not accumulate. What could be the prblem? It is a 2001 A6 4.2 Quattro. Please help!

Probably the battery tray drain is plugged. You need to get that water out ASAP, there are a lot of electrical things under that carpet (like the TCU).

The clogged battery tray drain is a common fault of the C5. If the drains clog, water will fill up to the point where it leaks into the compartment via the tray where the cabin air filter is located. There is also a common fault with the A/C evaptorator drain, but since your wet carpet revealed itself after rain, I am guessing the battery tray drain. Another potential water leak can come from clogged sunroof drains, but those typically show up with stains on the headliner.

So, to address your problem, see the posts below:

Have you had your windshield replaced recently? The first time I had mine replaced, the installers didn't install it correctly and I realized this much later finding the same moisture on passenger side after rain. I tested the windshield and found that the installers put the plastic trim piece at the bottom of the windshield in the wrong position.

Now with a second new windshield installed properly, I no longer have a water leaking issue on passenger side.

Just FYI.

I just had this problem with my 2004 allroad. The reason it was leaking is because the basil that long piece of plastic at the bottom of the windshield was not seated properly into the groove at the bottom of the windshield. Apparently some people think you can just press it in with your fingers. It makes a sound like it's seated, but it's still loose. You have to tap it in with your fist or with a rubber mallet preferably. If it's not properly seated. The water just runs right underneath it and soaks through the cabin air filter which is in the engine compartment and comes right in through the air handler unit. It was literally a 30 second fix.
