Default ICM swap

Just swapped ICMs(marked before swap) luckily the heat paste hasn't dried and set up. Restarted, misfiring, reset VCDS metering blocks 014, 015 & 016. This time at idle cyl 3 was misfiring, but 6 was missing about half as much as cyl 3. cyl 4 was also missing but it missed 4x's to cyl 3's 350x's and cyl 6 200x's. I then accelerated to 1000rpm, the only missing happened to cyl 3. Okay, I now know bad ICM, but do I replace 1 or both? Is cyl 6 missing now because it's accross from cyl 3?

You have major misfires on both banks. ICMs are not that pricey - I would swap them both out. There are two different shapes/sizes, make sure you get the correct one.

Default Opinions

What is everyone's opinion...? Of course I purchased 2 new ICM's, but I'm wondering if this problem might be deeper. Reason I mention... The original ICMs have Audi rings and are coler coded (black and tan). My A6 has just under 180,000 miles. Currently my car has 2 aftermarket Beru ICMs. Isn't it strange that these have already been switched out at least once? Am I correct in saying these ICM's recieve a signal from the crank sensor? Would a weak signal cause an ICM to malfunction prematurely? I will update after ICMs arrive.

Default Replaced ICMs

Replaced both ICM's no more ignition misfire! The day I received them I did however start to feel a different miss, this one felt more like a stuck injector. Possibly something entered the fuel rail when replacing? I kept everything clean and covered or plugged when servicing. But that miss has subsided for now. I will probably clear codes, drive for a week and then read the plugs for which cylinder has a bad injector. But for now, smooth idle, easy start, lots of power and thank you for all that helped out! I hope this helps someone in the future.
