Vast SS = HUGE improvement...
I got my short shifter from Vast earlier today and spent a few hours installing it tonight. The instal went smoothly except for one busted knuckle. Ha ha.
I can't think of a better way to spend 60 dollars. The shift is definitely shorter, but the real difference is in the way the shift feels. It feels like I'm engaging a gear now instead of a sponge! Anyway, I love the result of this mod, my second one.
My first mod was an APR chip, which I love also. My A6 will now actually pull on my STi in 3rd through 6th. The STi absolutely runs away from it in 1st and 2nd.
The next mod I'm planning is to take out the resonator and replace it with a straight pipe. I've read posts on this and it sounds like a great "bang for the buck" mod. I can't wait!! I'm loving this car.

they do...
They do modify the stock shifter. I paid 120 dollars and will get back 60 when I send in the stock part I took out. The most obvious change is that the linkage position is moved down by about an inch. There was also some grinding and trimming to facilitate this. When I first looked at it, I though, "damn...I could have just done this myself". After looking at it close, there is more to it than just moving the link hole.
The arm isn't shorter at all. It actually moves the shift **** up by about an inch because the link is lowered about an inch. You could cut off an inch to return it to stock, but I like it a little taller. It moves the shift **** into almost perfect allignment with the center arm rest.
Obviously I'm very happy with Vast, the shifter and the customer service. For the money, I can't think of why anyone would pay 150-200 dollars fo the other SSers on the market.
