Upgrade Canadian A6 to HID Xenon
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/87789/my1998a6.jpg"></center><p>
My 1998 A6 has daytime running lights (runs the low beams as lower voltage). I am considering upgrading to LLTEK's new 42W HID Xenon. The headlight housings will work just fine. I am concerned with powering the xenon's properly.
I guess the DRL's would have to be moved to the fog lights or run the xenon's all the time.
Do I need to change coding with my VAG-COM and if so any hints?
Do I need to change the headlight switch?

Check this 1998 wiring diagram...

I think they by-pass the series resistance wiring (N74 on diagram) on HID cars. If this is the case, I just need to find it.

I don't want to have to to change housings...
I did not see any mention of power changes to bypass the lowered voltage on daytime running lights. How would a housing change solve this?

I converted my halogens to Bi-Xenon's a year ago & moved the DRL to Fogs.
Click below for the conversion to xenons.
The problem with the '98-'01 Cdn audis is that the DRL function is hardwired to the low beam, and is automatic. The popular "fog DRL mod" is irrelevant to Canadian Audi's.
The Xenon work with the lower voltage of the DRL's since it steps up the voltage to a much higher level anyways.
The problem is that upon turning the key in the ignition - the DRL's go thru a split second when they have power, then a relay cuts it off while the starter turns, and then back-on once the motor turns by itself. This often caused one or both of my xenons to misfire when the power came back on, and would not light. A "burnt-bulb" fault would appear on the center display. I had shut the car off and try again.
If I remembered to turn the low-beam on full power before turning the engine over, then all was well.
The solution was to extract the switch and cut two wires and splice one across to the other. I have to dig up my notes - but I worked it out by following the wiring diagram.
I remember vaguely something about pin3 and TFL. Let me confirm this...
