Default Saturday CV boot and tie rod replacements. Black fingers but its done!

Thanks to Kris Hansen and others who have posted writeups on these 2 tasks. I had a mystery clunk in the front suspension and when trying to diagnose, noticed a split CV boot. So I decided to do the boot and tie rods in hope of either curing the clunk or finding the offending control arm in the process.
My first tie rod was seized at the adjusting nut so the quick, tire on, method didn't work. With the wheel off, a pipe wrench, and some choice swear words, it finally gave it up. For the CV boot, I used Kris Hansen's tech paper. Worked great but it took some serious cranking on the puller to get it off. Mine didn't "pop" and let go. It gave me resistance the whole way. The 2nd tie rod, was a piece of cake. The wheel on method worked like a charm. Its interesting that the same exact thing can either take 2+ hrs. or 20 minutes. I guess I paid my dues on the first one. I was also surprised to find the pinch bolt gave me no problems at all (I read the nightmare posts)for the CV replacement.
So far, my clunk is gone. I'm puzzled because neither tie rod seemed to be in bad shape, nor did the controls arms. I'll align it tomorrow and see if the clunk come back.
Thanks again to all that posted how-to's. These are much better than the crappy Bentley write-ups.

Default I guess they are better write-ups because they are based on work carried out by 'real' people.....

on 'real' cars which have been used rather than a brand new special supplied directly by the manufacturer specially for the purpose of being dismantled.
