Egil A64.2s - S6

I have both a '01 A6 4.2 with the sport setup and an '07 S7 with its V10.

Aside from the handling differences, which are obvious, the S6 is a better car all around. The transmission seems to be rock solid, something I can't say for the '01.

Personally, I would go for a '07 or newer A6. There are some very good buys out there.

"better car all around" is subjective. The C6 does not give my wallet the warm fuzzies.

I'm sure it's a nicer car to drive, but unbilical cord to Audi that can never but severed is a huge negative for me.

Right, '07 or '08 pretty much guarantees an almost bug-free MMI system, whereas an older car would've had to have its MMI updated to achieve the same stability. 2007 is when the AMI system first came out, so MMI versions after that have been pretty solid.

With an updated MMI, comes updated module software as well, which would remove the potential bugs from the other modules in the car.

Basically, don't buy one without knowing the MMI version, which should be 33.60 or better for best results.

I warmed up to the C6 once I had a chance to drive the new 3.0T supercharged V6!!!

I also like the redesign for the "facelifted" C6 in 2009. Much better rear end appearance (tail lights and trunk shape much better) plus the LEDs in the headlamp housings. Drive one, and you'll want one too!

You've hit on one of my major concerns. 33.60? How many freakin' versions does Audi need to get this right? And they have the gall to charge for upgrades? MMI updates should be free of charge, like software patches.

Hmm.. Well, I love my 4.2L A6 I have no problems with it at all. I guess its just missing the RNS-E Nav that I wanna get so bad.
