Just got an answer back from one of the $4 ones that said it also used the small battery, but since I got these at 2 for $14 with logos, I think I am ahead of the game.

Once I get these converted, I will probably add a third (and maybe a 4th) key fob (If I can ever find out how to get them programmed.)

Default Need help with Remote Case

The new eBay remote cases came in and all looks good.

They hold the right size batteries (2 of the 1620).
The "Panic" switch is there.
They came with the logo and keying swivel.

SO, here is the question.

Without cutting up the old remote case, is there any way to get the circuit board out?

The 2 brass pins in the picture do not seem to screw or pull out.

FRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you pull hard enough the brass pin will come out . . . . suddenly!

Unfortunately, the second one will not and the corner of the board will crack.

I don't see any traces in that little piece of board, but the remote is now dead, so I guess something broke.

On to buying a new remote.

Any suggestions as to one that have worked well vs those that have not?

Does anyone know if this procedure works for a 2000 A6?

AUDI REMOTE PROGRAMMING

Remote Control Programming (1997 AND UP)

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using

the Drivers door with a second key.

3. Using the remote control press the Unlock

button once, and the horn will sound once.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the

coding procedure.(The remote control will now be programmed).

* If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice on the

second remote with one second interval between each press.

* If programming 3 remotes press the unlock button three times

on the third remote...etc..etc..

5. Switch Ignition OFF.

6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.
7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional

remotes.

8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each

remote.

New one is probably not dead

It's in the owners manual how to program a dead one
Press any button on remote, cyle lock and unlock with key in door

Should work

One of mine worked when I did it next day

From what I have read the "Push button and cycle lock" process "Re-Syncs" a linked but un-synced remote (maybe they have some sort of rolling code). (This is in the manual)

The longer process seems to be to link and sync a new remote. I have found several versions of similar instructions, but none come directly from Audi, and most seem to be for A4 and not A6 cars. (Since in Audi's view, new remotes only come from dealers, the procedure does not need to be published beyond the dealer service departments)

I wish we as a community knew more about he working of these cars.
