Is there an immobilizer on 2000 A6?
Hello..
Considering replacing my instrument cluster in order to repair the dead LCD.
Would this be a simple remove and replace?
Or, would I have to deal with vag-com issues, or even worse, immobilizer?
Thanks

No immobilizer untill '02. Instead of repacing the whole cluster, which involves odo.
programming, look into some of the newer fixes available. In recent months people have figured out how to replace just the screen. There were very recent topics on this in both this forum and the B5 S4 page.

Actually it started in the begining of the '01 year
but a very small number of cars didn't get it. All cars were supposed to get Immobilizer but Audi had a parts supply shortage and some cars arrived without it. There was a "Delete" entry for Immobilizer on the window sticker for those that didn't have it. IIRC those cars even had a credit for the deletion.
I had an 07/00 build and mine had it. There were a couple of cars on the lot that didn't have it when I bought mine during the 1st week of Sept 2000.

I have a replacement LCD screen..email me, sell for $150.
I paid a bunch more for it from Germany and chose not to install it..the desoldering/resoldering requires some skill and a hot air soldering station. Had the instrument cluster replaced.

replacing screen seems hard..
I know my way around a soldering iron.. but from the writeup I doubt I have the skills to do it right. Found a used cluster with almost the same mileage for 100.00
