Suggestions for buying '02 Audi A6
#13
I have an '02 A6 Avant (3.0 Q tip) as well..... 75k miles.
Bought mine as a CPO for 16k with 60k miles about 12 months ago... and yes, I travel. It's a great cruiser. =)
The TB service on the 3.0 is actually a dual cam belt (3 rollers, tensioner, serp belt, serp tensioner, water pump, thermostat, head gaskets, and maybe a rocker seal) and involves basically tearing down the engine top-end.
<a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?action=cart&ITEMID1::0::4708::0=1 "> TB kit $599 at ECS Tuning</a>
The total timing belt job will come to between $1,800 and $2,500 depending on where you get it done, and whether or not you need a cam seals ($475 new per).
If the dealer is receptive - why not make the TB Service part of the purchase price.
Tell the sales manager (not the salesman) that you'll pay him 17k for the 15k car if he includes a full timing belt service with all the parts above, and ask him for a "We Owe" before you sign anything if he agrees. =)
