If you have immobilizer, you could try to buy a used/new cluster from elsewhere and try to get your dealer to program it for you - that is if they are willing to do it.

Let's take the "greek" out; some components such as Engine Control Module and instrument cluster etc. are secured to avoid tampering and requires a "login" into the ECM to reprogram them. Instrument cluster is one of those components (think back to old days of rolling back mechanical odometer etc.) that is secured to avoid tampering or misrepresenting a car.

Seriously, no offense but this is a bit more than you can handle. It requires connecting to a database (possibly some proprietary equipment) and even then, $100+ registration to Audi repair program for allowing you access under an independent shop program and so on.

I strongly suggest you go to a dealer if you want to fix this.

I'd be interested to know what they quote you. Down here in this part of the world I was quoted NZD$1800 (which is about US$1440) for the instrument cluster plus coding and programming on top of that. Nothing too fancy about the cluster either (2000 A6 2.8Q immobiliser, digital clock, larger LCD display for trip computer display)

Why not just have your cluster rebuilt?
