Something about these old S-Classes....
<center><img src="http://worldclassmotorcars.com/carimages/397_91560SELANTHRACITEGRAY.JPG"></center><p>just makes me want to get one. This one is a 91 420SEL w/41K miles.
From what I heard, these are tanks and very reliable.

no idea, they want you to call.
Love this S next to a 92 600SEL...which had 402 hp V12...ooooh baby.<ul><li><a href="http://worldclassmotorcars.com/index.htm">http://worldclassmotorcars.com/index.htm</a</li></ul>

They are good old tanks. Avoid the model that came after - quite unreliable according to owners.
In fact I think of the D2 A8 as the successor to that old S, with a bespoke solid hand crafted feel.

There are quite a few of them running around town...
even the old early, early 80's diesel S classes. I looked at a used one with 550K on the clock!
Don't know what the repair bills would be like or parts availability, but I would think it would be compirable to an older Audi.
A car of that vintage would need to have every line, hose, and belt replaced. I rode in one once, it was a 300SEL...even the small engine didn't feel slow. It was very comfortable and the seats were one of the best I've ever sat in.
Still, my favorite Mercedes--when a Benz was a Benz.

You're right. There will be age related itmes that have nothing to do with the quality of the car.
Doesn't matter how well it's made, rubber and eventually plastics do break down.
