You sould hear a faint whine that varies with acceleration. That's the sound a turbo makes. But
if it becomes significantly louder/shrill then I'd start worrying.

faint whine is normal....
the sound of a dying turbo is much louder and noticeable. you'll know it when you hear it.
I keep my fingers crossed when I say this but I'm almost up to 150k on my stock turbos. they barely make a peep and don't leak a drop of oil.

OK thx guys...more noticeable when cold..but it wasn't noticeable previously....
at all....I recognize the 'normal' turbo whine...I just seemed to notice this new tone recently..... then again, maybe I need to turn down my radio...only 120K on the odometer...so just a knee jerk reaction by me...hopefully!
