for my a6 they came with either 215/55/16 or 235/45/17 or for s-line 235/40/18 and the 18's are the stock ones for me. but for the 4.2 engine some had the fat fives with tires on those stock would be 255/40/17 so they are wider and the actual wheel itself is wider.

regarding straightening the wheels there are a bunch of places near me. i went to nh wheel and tire. some will even drive to you i think.

I find that most cars have a bent wheel and the owner doesnt realize it. Shops are blind.

But a bent wheel wont generally cause pattern wear. It causes a vibration.

Looks like alignment to me.

If you're really worried about New England winters and are buying new wheels/tires for that purpose, go right to 16" wheels…there were OEM 16" wheels on 4.2A6 cars. Get at least 55 if not 60 series sidewalls..tall tires better for snow and resist banging in potholes!

If you insist on OEM, got to wheelcollision.com and pick up a set of reconditioned 16" wheels for your year A6.

It kills me that after a little over 3k miles I'll most likely need to replace two of the tires for matching front ones.
GFL…255/40/17 unobtainium in Dunlop SP9000.

yes this is the reason for me at least switching to the 17's so the tire would show more on the side and give more support. i would be fine w/ the 16's but love those fat five 17's thats all. cant have it all though!

OK…I use 235/45/17 on my pie plate audi rims that came with the 4.2A6.

So... If indeed my wheel is bent, they can be had for around $220 for 'remanufactured' OEM wheels. Anyone have experience with this? Are there really good as new?

I was going to link an auction for the tires but quickly realized they aren't SP 9000s... The only reason I even have the tires is because some guy on craiglist had them sitting in his garage for a couple years after his brother removed them from another set of oem sport wheels off an A6. Long story short, I basically got four brand new Dunlop SP 9ks for $175.

Oh and this is for you Sloop, I think you'll get a kick out of it...
