Rear Deck Spoiler

Rear Deck Spoiler
I noticed a lot of guys running the rear deck lid "lip" spoiler, and it looks pretty good. Where's a good place to get one, and what should I expect to pay.

I've had both the M5 spoiler (on the 2.7T) and the RS6 spoiler (on the 4.2)...
I like both. Both were OEM (yes, even the BMW M5 spoiler). Just a couple of comments about the M5 vs. the RS6 spoiler first, then a few thoughts of OEM vs. replica from my perspective
M5 vs. RS6
The M5 is a nice addition to the decklid. Just enough to breakup the roundness of the rear. However, it is more visible on light colored cars because of the shadow...on darker colored cars it is not as visible.
Here is the M5 on my silver 2001 2.7T...

The RS6 spoiler is a lot larger than the M5, and is really visible on both light and dark colored cars. Nice if you are loking for something a bit more agressive looking. After all, that is the spoiler used on the RS6 and the 2004 2.7T S-line.
Here is the RS6 spoiler on my 2002 4.2...

It is a matter of personal taste which spoiler you choose...but IMHO, both look good on the A6. In general, I like the M5 on the narrow-body A6 (2.8/3.0/2.7T) and the RS6 on the widebody A6 (4.2).
Replica vs. OEM
The replicas cost a fraction of what the OEM versions cost at the dealer, both the M5 and the RS6. The other advantage of the replicas is that many of the replica distributors have paint-match programs for additional cost so it comes ready to install on your car. They also come with tape for easy install, no drilling necessary.
However, the OEM versions have much better fit on the car. Here is a closeup of fit of the OEM RS6 spoiler vs. the spoiler depot replica...

See the gap that the replica spoiler has? That is due to the thickness of the adhesive tape. The lines are not as crisp as the OEM as well.
For the M5, the differences between OEM and replica are a bit less noticeable. However, many replicas come straight (although flexible), which is important because it adds a step to the installation. The OEM BMW M5 spoiler comes pre-curved (looking from above), so it fits the shape of the rear deckid perfectly with no effort other than to line up the ends properly. See this pic below...

See how the spoiler follows the curve of the trunk nicely? Almost matches the lines of the leading edge of the trunk at the base of the rear window. If the spoiler is straight, you have to be careful to mount the spoiler properly so the curves are even on both sides of the car...not an easy task if you are alone, and the tape is VERY sticky.
The curve allows the spoiler to be mounted a bit lower on the decklid. If the spoiler is mounted too high, IMHO it does not match the lines of the car as well, as pictured on the car to the right below...

I do not have any images of my own for the replica M5, but you can see the process and some closeups for jimmyc83's install here (which is replica that came pre-curved).
Cost? OEM BMW runs about $150 plus paint. OEM RS6 runs about $450 plus paint and install (require's drilling). Replicas can be found on eBay for much less. It is up to you what you want to spend and whether or not the differences between OEM and replica are meaningful to you.
Hope this helps!

Replica RS6 spoilers from SD now come with recessed mounting for tape

The tape now sits flush with the outside edge which allows the spoiler to sit pretty damn close to the trunk lid. I have maybe a 1/8" space all the way around...nothing like yours shows.
