Default rear brakes

Have 2000 A6Q. Trying to install new pads and rotors. No Manual. Rear calipers look the same any other Saab and VW/Audi that I have owned i.e., the pistons have to be screwed back in to accomadate new pads and rotor. So far no luck. The piston turns, but does not retract. Have also tried the C-clamp method with no results. What I am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Default Did you take the cap off the brake fluid reservior? Can also try bolting the caliper onto the

carrier with the brake disc removed and put some serious a$$ behind the tool. Sometimes you need some extra force to get the piston engaged before it will retract, esp if your pads were worn down all the way.

Default rear brakes - cheap rebuilt calipers

You can get loaded (semi-metallic) rear calipers at Pep Boys cheap. I had to do that 'cause I couldn't get the pistons back in as well. I think they were around $75 each as I recall.

Default Go to your local Autozone and ask to borrow their brake tool set - the one

that compresses and rotates the piston. they'll charge you a $35-$40 deposit, and when you return the tool will refund the deposit in full. Cost to you = $0.

Default Tech section is your friend...

See my writeup. If you can borrow the tool, then go for it. Else read the tips I put in there...

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel24.shtml

Default Re: rear brakes

Hey guys, thanks for all the help! Everything was spot on. Went to the local AZ and borrowed the brake tool kit and it worked like a charm.
