Question on failing ABS controller, fix or wait?
I bought the 99 A6 2.8 I was looking at, nice car. Thanks for the advice.
It is throwing error lights and tones for ABS/brakes, it's done it three times now in three days; twice momentarily and once it stayed on for a couple of minutes then went away. I realize I will need to remove the ECU from the pump and send it off to be fixed; my question is, with winter looming, if these warning lights are intermittent and brief, is the ABS working properly otherwise for now? I'm trying to judge whether it's better to pull the ECU now and send it off and be completely without ABS or wait and live with the warnings until I can either put the car down for a week or it's spring :-)

yeah I had the same question, but decided to do mine in the spring....
it will be like driving without ABS... you know like my souped up '69 chevy Impala I drove in High School back in '85. Wasn't a problem then so I will wait for spring.... ;-)

Oh yes, it makes complete sense to leave the ABS broken during the winter
and all the slippery road conditions, and then to fix it in the spring.
Maybe you could invest the money saved on the ABS job in a life insurance policy?

Actually, outside of the point made by donp below, ABS is isn't much help in wintery conditions...
In fact, in slippery conditions like ice, snow, and gravel, ABS increases stopping distances.
