Please help identifying oil leak
Can anyone see what the cause is for the oil leak in the pictures? You can see that the lower half of the front engine is covered with oil. When looking under the engine the oil seems to come from the left side (passager side). No burning oil smell.

Can't tell from pics, but I bet if you pull the cam sprockets and those black pieces underneath you'll see the leaks are from the front of the head, maybe CAM SEALS?

I don't know for sure, but since you there and due to this mess, doing the crankshaft seal is not a bad idea once this may be your problem.
Also, it is very important to check the cam seals as mentioned by SloopJohnB.
Please post your findings because I believe I have in the same leak.

Did you lock the engine on TDC before removing the belt? It seems to be off.

Main leak looks like cam adjuster seal on bank two, but hard to tell from all the oil. I agree with what others have written; you probably should replace a bunch of seals. Looks like you are doing the belt anyway, so you should be doing all those seals as part of the service:
Cam seal (4)
Cam adjuster seal (2)
Cam plug (2)
Valve cover gasket (2)
Crank seal (1)

Valve cover gasket (2)

2nd. Missed the forest for the trees. Obvious in retrospect.

Actually the pictures are from last year when I changed the belt, tensioner, waterpump and other stuff. I noticed that the cams were off
when I removed the belt. However by marking all sprockets and putting
back the new belt (counting the teeth) it seems that I got the timing right. The engine runs just fine. No change in fuel economy or performance.
However I did'nt look into the oil leak at the time... Correct me if I'm
wrong, but is'nt the cam adjuster in the back of the engine. How come
all the oil is in the front? Is there a channel that will direct the oil
to the front?
I guess that because I was lazy last year, I have to dig into the engine
again (removing T-belt and such again), d'oh!
