Default Which oil filter (?)

2001 A6 4.2L Hey,, which oil filter, fellas (?) My local Audi guru swears by Bosch (and says no WIx; no FraM), but I can't find a listing anywhere for the part number. Probably a little more involved than running up to WalMart like I thought ... Thanks !

Mann, Mahle are favorites, I sometimes get Mann when buying filters at NAPA sold under their name on the NAPA Gold level. definately not Fram, I might argue about Wix But not now.

Regards

Mann. When I order oil filters from Amsoil.com they ship me Mann.
You can also get them from ecstuning and other online german car suppliers.

Fair disclosure: Lifetime Amsoil Dealer.

Mann and Mahle are good along with Wix, they all have good filter media along with better back-flow check valves compared to the main stream over bloated brands. Lately I've been using Wix the past two oil changes with no start-up rattles on a 3.0 and that means a lot...to me.

I like to use Bosch, Mann, Mahle, Wix, and Napa Gold. Stay away from Fram, even a walmart supertec filter is better quality.

Agree with the above, and would add that I have used Puralator filters with no issues. I have 294,000 miles on my car and I change oil every 10,000. I'm not sure that means I'm doing anything right, but it means that I'm doing "good enough". At least for me.

OK how about a slight hijack, What mileage are you guys changing oil at.
Car has had full synthetic its entire life, I have not had anything late model (yes 2001 is late to me) I run dino oil in everything else, the good cars (911 & 912) I am running Brad Penn 20 50 and changing at 3,000 miles.

On the Audi 2.8 it had a fresh change (including the oil pan) just prior to my purchase. I did the ECS Kit with Pentosin (sp?) full syn 5-40 & the Mann filter
First change I did 5,000 mi, just ordered another kit and will be at 5K in a week or so, above I see the mention of 10K
What do you folks change it at??
The Mann filter shows 30K km for the filter but way high, 20k mi

Thanks

On my 2.8 I do 7500 miles on 5w40 synthetic. Its got 200k on it now and still sounds nice. Anything turbo go down to 5-6k oil changes.

Thanks for the input, I think I will adjust mine up to the 7 - 7.5k range, car also had a nwe oil pan (speed bump i was told) just before I bought it. at 5K oil was pretty clean on first change and at 4.5 k now looks very good,
