Default Oh No!! Not the tranny!!

Hey everyone looking to pick your brains.

2000 Audi A6 2.7T, 6 speed manual

The other day I was driving the Audi a little rough and hit second gear a little too hard. Occasionally after that second gear would scratch when shifting from first but no other problems.

I guess I don't learn my lesson the first time, I was sporting around again and hit second a little hard. Now shifting into reverse, first, and second is very stiff an hard to get into. Even when you pull it out of gear and put it back in it is still stiff. Third through sixth are fine and shift as normal. Also there is a lot of movement in the stick while driving, Bad mount maybe??

So my question is what's the chances that I broke or bent a weak spot in the shift linkage and didn't trash my tranny?? My wallet thanks you for all responses!!

oy yes the tranny Sounds like you may have bent something internal .. but only way to know now is to dig in and find out ... and curse yourself from not learning a hard lesson sooner

Oh, I don't know. If he was power shifting, maybe, but manual shifters are generally built to take a lot of wear if not abuse. It's more likely a worn internal or broken synchro or we would hear a lot more of this kind of problem.

After doing some more research I am leaning more and more towards the shift collar and a clutch that is going. Looks like I'll be replacing or rebuilding them both.

I did read though that there is some kind of shift linkage adjustment. Maybe I had pulled it out of adjustment?? Any one ever mess around with that??

I was just listing my spare 01E EDU 6spd for sale. It's from an 01.5 s4 with 110k miles, guaranteed to work. Send me a message if you're interested, I would like it gone and it will be cheaper than a rebuild.
