Looks like it is $3000 with a $1000 "Present from Grandpa" discount.

So $2000K for a well maintained 2000 A6 Q.

Sound good?
I'll let you have my 2000 A4 1.8t for 1000K

Sounds like you have a pretty good deal there. The Tiptronic is not a problem and mates well to the 2.8 engine.

$2k for a one-owner (family owned) is a great deal. The 2.8 is a solid motor, much better than the 3.0 that replaced it in 2002.

Just be careful of your son getting the "mod bug" out in the forums...once bitten, you can't stop that itch!!!

There is not much you can mod on a 2.8 on the engine but would certainly be a great car. I have the same car with a 2.8 my son is learning to drive on ... It is all wheel drive , is pig slow comapterd to the 2.7 and 4.2, doesnt get very good gas milage... the perfect car to learn on ..

He isnt going very far, very fast, and he wont get stuck in the snow ..

if it hasnt been mentioned the timing belt needs to be replaced occasionally.

He is actually going to learn on our old CRV, with my daughter (current CRV driver) using the Audi for the first 6 months or so.

I doubt he will be doing much in the way of mods. Slow is good.
I figure it should have a good number of years left in it with decent maintenance.

I don't have the manuals yet.
Is there a service chart on-line somewhere?

I have a Bentley manual for mine but I find that Google searches and youtube are way better sources for info. This forum is also a great place to find knowledge. These guys have seen and done it all and are very willing to help. Good luck.

the first and most important thing I would check is when the timing belt was done. I change mine every 100,000km or do . maybe a bit soon but better 40,000km too soon than .5 km too late ..

it is not a cheap job to do but shop around. A good independant is always a good bet over a stealership.

What is the recommended schedule for the belt?
I have been told 75K, 90K, 100K???

Anything else unusual?
ATF recommendations?
Brake fluid recommendations?
Power steering fluid recommendations?
T-State and/or water pump? (Usually I figure are done with Timing belt to be safe)
Particular electrical bit and pieces?

I have an indy shop I used for my Range Rover years ago, and also have a recommendation for one nearby.

I do simple stuff myself.

(Still no edit button)

What about diagnostic tools.

I have a cheap ODB/CAN reader that so far has been fine with my MBs and Hondas.
Is that good enough to start, or do you "really" need a VW/Audi specific reader?
