New to me 02 A6 with brake problems, please help
I picked up my 2002 2.7t from the shipping yard in Seattle tonight. I then drove it back to Portland, about 150 miles. I drove the car around a bit before getting on the freeway and tested the brakes, checked the oil, tire pressure, etc. Nothing seemed to be wrong.
After getting into Portland though, the driver's side front brake made an terrible grinding sound when I came to a stop. Here's what I think happened, but please let me know what you think.
It looks like the caliper seised closed at some point and wore the pad down to nothing. I haven't pulled the wheel off yet, but I will first thing in the morning.
If this is what happened, can someone tell me how to unstick a stuck caliper?
Thanks for any advice you can give.
Trevor

Nice lookin A6! If the front pads show varying amounts of wear between sides, you may have...
...a seizing caliper. It's possible to remove/replace the piston boot(s) and clean/lube the piston, but a rebuild/replacement might be the best option.
If you brake without turning, does the car pull to one side or the other? That's a symptom typical of uneven braking between the left and right calipers, IE; seized caliper piston.
If it's just a grinding noise when braking, you may just need a brake service (pads at minumum, but maybe rotors if they're show scarring).
Congrats on the new car, and good luck with the diagnosis.
