Oil = German Castrol 0w-30, get it at Autozone and currently on sale until April 3. Do a search for German Castrol you will see many post regarding it and how to tell if it is the real thing.

Capacity = get 7qts, but it is actually just over 6 qts that is needed.

Filter = MANN oil filter(best), OEM filter from dealer, or WIX filter from autoparts store.

NO! 0w-30 is WAY too thin for these cars, get shell rotella full synthetic (t6) 5w-40

GC is thick for a 30w and is almost a 40w. It also shears very little so it will stay in grade at high 30w for the duration of it's service life. It's also VW 502 approved. I will admit that we do not know his location so if he is in a hot climate then T6 would be a great choice as well. Castrol 5w-40 or Mobil 1 0w-40 would also be great choices. They are both also VW 502 approved.

GC has it's own section it is such a great oil. You will also find information on other European approved oils.

I use 5W-40 Amsoil european formula.

OTOH, I've also used 15W-40 amsoil diesel/marine engine oil for over 100K miles in the 2K4.2A6. Only switched to to 5W-40 after it came out and the 02S6 is supposed to use the VW umpty umpt formula and then I only have to keep two or three varieties (M3 uses 5W-60! and garden equipment and generator use straight 30) but only one variety for the audis.

I've had good results with amsoil on spectrometric oil analysis as well. YMMV but you'll only know for sure on YOUR engine if you invest in oil analysis.

Fair disclosure...lifetime amsoil dealer.

GC is the exception to the rule. Very good. Rarely seen in the wild.

Overall agree. Honestly, most any decent 5w40 or 10w40 synthetic meetign ACEA A3 is fine. These are not highly stressed motors. Change regularly. Treat turbos to normal turbo routine.
