Default need...more...speed...

I had a few races with a friend's STi tonight. He has a chip and a downpipe. I have an APR chip and the resonator removed. His car feels much faster than mine, but I was surprised that we are very, very close in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. He tends to pull on me whenever I get above 5500rpm, but I gain it back in the next gear.

The performance increase from the APR chip was amazing. I am thinking about getting piggy pipes now and getting the stage 2 chip. Can those of you who have done down pipes or piggies tell me if it is a similar increase in performance as going from stock to stage 1 chip?

I obviously love to be able to pull on him convincingly. As is, it's anybody's race. 350-400 dollars seem like an inexpensive way to buy victory. Anybody want to comment? Other ideas for mods to walk on the STi?

Heavy large awd sedan. Skip car mods and go to driving school. Spank him in the corners.

Default a vote for school!

Best $ ever spent.

Was driving our little Saturn SC1 over CA-17 and all the things that I was taught in class came flooding back to me. It was great carving the corners on that road.

Plan on going to a driving school again, perhaps in the A8 next time. Hmm maybe I should send the wife...

I agree with April, although it is fun to drive fast you picked a family sedan. My last vehicle was a Ford Ranger, So I feel like I'm fast as is. But whatever makes you happy. Don't expect too much power out of the exhaust. I've seen Dyno tests where Headers,Exhaust,Piping, and cold air intake equalled about 18 hp gain on our family sedan.

Default You've got a 1,000 pound deficit. Plan on spending lots of $ on K04s, etc. if you want to hang...

with even a slightly modded STi. Besides, street racing is stupid.

Default you want what now? spank STi in corners with our porky 4000 lbs?

That will not happen. Weight is weight, and STi has an incredible advantage in that department. It also handles incredibly well right from the factory.

Spend $$$ on suspension upgrades, and you may hang with one. To beat him? Try again.

Default Speed is nothing without control. I can clobber almost anything on a tight track

in my Front Trak A3 - stock with wheelspin galore - and I don't think I'm all that when it comes to driving, but I have managed some seat time at a number of schools.

The STi has the potential to trounce most cars, but without the right driver, it's nothing more than a turbocharged shopping trolley.

The driver has far more to say in the outcome than most people realize.
