Default Need Cam Pos Sensor Advice on Avant Project

I picked up this 99 avant for $1300 with 155K miles with a "blown tranny". I replaced the TCM and she works fine with her original tranny. Now I'm going all the way with an engine/tranny pull & then TB and all seals/gaskets. But first...

It took about 2 hrs(my first time) to lift & put the avant in the service position so I could determine the cause of the my Cam Pos Sensor problem. Now that I'm this far along and since I picked up a new 2-ton hoist for $100 I've decided to pull the engine to clean her up and do all of the required maintenance.

Here are my codes that now dont make any sense after I first replaced the cam sensor and I've now confirmed that the cams are all at TDC as well as the crank(pics attached).
Any ideas on what else I should be looking at that causes this?

You replaced the passenger side cam position sensor and still have the code? Did you use a good one and not the ebay cheap ones right?

You also didn't need to put into service position to do cam sensor, but as long as your there you should do the full TB service. At 155k miles it is probably about due for it.

Either a defective CPS or a pinched/broken wire in the harness leading to the sensor. Could also be a problem back at the ECU.

1st I got fault code so I replaced CPS with new bosch cps, then pulled codes again & fault code remained. Then I did service position to eyeball TDC situation on cams and prep for full service maintenance(TB, CCT, etc.).

Thanks - these CPS are low-tech, chinese-made by bosch so I'm not surprised it would be broken out of the box. I think I'll try another one and see if it's my problem - the short wiring run from the CPS to the wiring loom looks fine so the prob could very well be at the ECU. If it's ECU, is there any way to repair it or is it an ECU replacement?

Swap CPS sensors from bank 1 and bank 2. See if the code follows or stays on bank 1.

Yea I just ordered another CPS to replace the fugly PS CPS since it's easier to replace now so swapping them for now is good idea. And wouldnt you know it, the plastic piece cracked as soon as i wiped some dirt off it - lol - so I just swapped them but with the front end off I'm heading to home depot to pickup some tubing in place of the radiator before I start her up

Just make sure you don't/didn't bend the timing plate on the camshaft.
There's a technique to remove the cps...have to rotate the housing a bit tø*clear the timing plate on the camshaft.
It's described in the tech article on removing cps.

Thanks for the advice - it worked, well, actually the cps doesn't work but your suggestion did. The fault code went with the new Bosch cps over to bank 2. The original cps with the audi rings & 155k miles & a broken plastic piece works fine when I moved it over to bank 1.
Lesson learned - never assume a new part works correctly, especially "Made by Mao".

Thanks - yea, I noticed these take a little patience before they pop off.
