My wife's '02 A6 3.0 sedan has some rust bubbles on the rear passenger side door. The previous (original) owner is a friend of the family, and told us that this door had previously been repaired as the result of an incident involving a deer. Now I'm looking to simply replace the door skin instead of trying to fix an already botched repair.

My question is, should a rear door skin(shell) from any year/engine/body style car work? I have a line on one from an '02 4.2, and one from a '99 avant. I know that the avant/sedan skins on the C4 generation cars could be interchanged. (the window frames were different, but could be swapped, I've done it) The avant door would likely be cheaper and more convenient, but right now I'm leaning toward the '02 4.2 door, since it should theoretically be the same as the '02 3.0 door.

VAGCAT shows the same part number for all years sedan & avant for the rear doors.

4B0833051 for left
4B0833052 for right

The only caveat is for the "door / for special armoured vehicle" which is 4B0833051B and 4B0833052B.

What color are you looking for? There are a half dozen or so C5s in my local self service yards and I'd be willing to work with you on a mutually beneficially arrangement. Shipping would be cheap and easy....I've shipped door shells several times.

Appreciate the info. I've got a line on 2 separate parts within about 30 miles that are priced <$60, so it probably doesn't make much sense to ship one. I'll keep you in mind, though, if nothing works out locally. Thanks again.
