Default Loss of Power while traveling question....

Here are the details:

2000 Audi A6 2.7T Quattro.

Recently had A/C compressor changed out. Mechanic said that he had to unhook turbo to do so.

Car running fine from Dallas to Arkansas until very end of trip. During the trip the red light oil lamp came on. I pulled over and checked the oil. Oil level was perfect. Oil Temperature was normal. Called my Audi mechanic and he thought the problem was the sensor going bad so I continued on.

3 Hours into my trip I lost turbo power. Engine ran fine, but no power. Checked oil again and all is good. Heard a click noise but no idea where it is coming from. Smoke coming out of the hood near the cab.

Not sure what to do next. Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks.

Kevin

Do those cars have factory waste gates for the turbos? I had a blow off valve stick open on my 240 once, and it cut the boost to my intake. I could drive it, but it ran really rich, and had no pickup.

more info by the way...

In the last 6 months I have had the following work done:

new valve covers
new cam valve cover including half moons
new valve controllers

all ran fine before the a/c repair.

yes they do have waste gates. But you have two turbos so it's unlikely both would fail and have little power.
You probably have a boost leak….the Y-shaped boot to the throttle body. They often develop a crack near the clamp(s).
