Default Loads of Codes and Misfires

<body style="line-height:1.2em;">
I got a dreaded blinking Check Engine Light recently. The engine sounded very wobbly.

I hooked up VAG-COM and it barfed out a huge laundry list of codes. FYI, here they are:

<pre style="line-height:1.0em;">

"""
</pre>

Most interesting is that all eight cylinders reported misfires - except for cylinder 5 (maybe #5 has bigger problems ;-).

Anyway, I decided to replace all eight spark plugs with new NGK Iridiums (same as the old ones). I also pulled out the throttle body and cleaned it with CRC Throttle Body and Intake Cleaner. I let it dry over night, then put it back in and re-calibrated the TB with VAG-COM. Then I tried to start it up and it actually sounds worse - the engine seemed to barely start.

I made some YouTube videos to illustrate ...

This first vid takes place after I cleaned and dried the TB. (Spark plugs were also previously installed.) I connected the TB wiring, but left the TB on top of the engine block with with the key in the accessory position for now. The first thing to notice is (and maybe this is normal) that the TB is making a high pitched sound while it is idle:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="1280" height="750" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EA4Rsjj84d0?hd=1" frameborder="0"></iframe><hr/>

In this second vid, I still leave the TB out on the block while I run VAG-COM to recalibrate it (VAG-COM function code "060"). It seems like it goes fine. VAG-COM goes to the "OK" status and we're done. Just to be safe, after I shot this clip, I reinstalled the TB into its properly bolted position and re-calibrated once more:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="1280" height="750" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uGWXHydq_-I?hd=1" frameborder="0"></iframe><hr/>

And lastly, I now start up the engine. The TB is back in. But I still haven't reconnected the air intakes and air box just to rule our inflow air resistance issues. But, when turning the key, it sounds like the engine isn't going to start. However it actually does, but doesn't come on with its usual, beautiful roar. It's still wobbly sounding - perhaps more so that before all the work:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="1280" height="750" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rCYF7LR1-TI?hd=1" frameborder="0"></iframe> <hr/>

So now the question is: What next?
<ul style="line-height:1.2em;">
<li>Check spark plug gapping?</li>
<li>Ignition Coils?</li>
<li>Deposits in Cyinders? (While changing plugs I peeked into the cylinder with a flash light and I did see a noticeable amount of carbon-ish build up in there.)</li>
<li>Anything else?</li>
</ul>

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

George

Sounds like a vacuum leak that precipitated all the problems.

Thanks for the tip. Any idea how to locate the leak? And wouldn't there be a vacuum pressure code thrown for that?
