Key Fob Battery Change for Newbies
#11
That key fob reset trick didn't do anything for me. I have 2001 A6.
To reset the fob after replacing the batteries, all I had to do was:
Push the unlock button on the key
Within one minute, place key in door lock and lock the door with the key.
That worked like a charm.

READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL.
Cool. Now that I got that rant off my chest, I'd like to note that I've changed batteries on every one of my two key fobs for the A6 and the S6 WITHOUT using a spare key.
Just take the dang thing apart (look at the manual) and replace the batteries. Press the buttons like they say in the manual and put the key in the lock and unlock the car manually.
IF the key fob gets damaged and won't hold together (the little plastic **** can break off) use a dab of gorilla glue (NOT a lot...you want to be able to pry it apart in a couple years) to hold the thing together. This has worked on my wife's keyfob for about 5 years.

I feel like a dork. I found the correct battery, when I took the fob apart to put the new batteries in, only one came out. I must have lost one while putting it together last time. So I don't know if the 1616s would have worked. Everything is working now using the method from the owner's manual.

i had to reprogramme my remote fob after I changed the battery. I started to freak out when a local locksmith charged me £127 just to reprogramme my key. Luckily I found a quite useful page with clear steps to follow and miraculously it worked: here's the link and good luck: http://autokeysquad.co.uk/audi-fob-programming

They're about a buck apiece online. Buy 20 of them.

Our 2K4.2A6Q brakes were covered under maintenance warranty...got new brakes and rotors twice before 50K miles.
$1600!!!! otherwise.
Dang cars eat brakes and rotors...that's why brakes and rotors are no longer covered under warranty.
