Default just a reminder to clear snow/ice inside your wheels...

After about 20" of snow since last Friday, I thought I had the car all cleaned off and ready for my trip into work today...until I hit the highway...

...shake shake shake shake shake...

Had visions of a wheel flying off (fro alst weeks embarassing "forgeting-to-retorque-the-wheels" incident, but no, about 1/2" or so of snow/ice packed on about 1/3 of the inside rim of the wheel. A few niutes roadside with my trusty snowbrush (which is now covered with brake dust and grime), all smooth the rest of the ride in.

Lesson learned...I should have taken care of this while in the safety of my own driveway, not roadside with cars blazing by at full speed.

Default Been there done that. A bit of a surprise the first time.

It is the wide flat wheels which cause to snow/ice to accumulate.

A different design, with a curve or a slant to the inside of the wheel could probably cause most of the snow to centrifuge off the rims.

Default that's where steelies are not so great, you can't get a brush in the holes...

So I usually dismount them once a month, and wash them out.. The good thing is, they don't really tend to build up much snow/ice, so it's an even trade.

Default same here

Oddly, this is the only car where I've had this happen. Partly because I live on a cul-de-sac, and I like to slide sideways into my driveway. -Always packs up the passenger side with snow and I forget until the next time I get on the freeway.
I wonder if it's detrimental to wait until getting to the safety of your own driveway or whatever destination before clearing it. I guess tie-rods and control arms could suffer quite a bit from it.
