Default I'm doing my brakes, going to replace all rotors and pads..how do I know if I have 16.7mm or 22.7mm

Hi all,
I haven't posted here in a while..I was hoping one of you fine folks could answer some questions.

1) I hear some a6 rotors have 16.7mm offset and some have 22.7. Is there anyway to know without pulling the wheel?

2) Where is the best place to get rotors (something cheap and decent)

and

3) Ive replaced rotors before, but never on an audi..is there any special tool I need, or any unique "german engineering" that will gum me up once I get into the nuts and bolts of the job?

Thanks to all in advance.

You need a caliper tool.

Default To replace the rears, yes. But not to measure front rotor offset. That requires a ruler.

Depending on which wheel you have, the rotor hat may be plainly visible through the spokes. Mine are. It should be pretty obvious just by looking at them, but if not you can slip a cloth tape measure or piece of paper or something in there and mark it off.

Or just pull the wheel. It won't take long.

If it helps, it appears that on the 2.7T, the older cars are 16.7 and the newer ones are 22.7. My guess is that this is partially why some wheels fit the post-facelift cars but not the pre-. That, and the caliper change.

Look in the spare tire wheel well. It should be written there with the paint code

Default 1) not sure; check by VIN? 2) ECS/GPRparts 3) ruler to measure, caliper screw tool

available from ECS or directly from harbor freight - nice kit in a plastic blow-mold box. Between $20 and 30

The rotors often seize to the hub. There is no screw I'm aware of.

Clean lubricate - or replace and lubricate - the guide pins.

Default Just did mine, measure from top of hat to base of rotor. Let me know if you are looking for some...

16.7mm's. I have a set of very new stage 2 cross drilled StopTech's that are 16.7mm (3000 miles). Mine took 27.7's. These were $299 a piece, and picked them up for $260 for both from a guy on Audizine. I will sell them for same amount if interested. they are very nice.

I have a standard caliper tool with adapters; Do you know if Audi requires a special tool?
