Well, it could be proof of amsoil synthetic and an oil analysis program.
Amsoil supposed to be 25K miles or one year, but I know people that run it for 100K miles with a bypass oil filter. You change the main oil filter every six months and the bypass once a year, topping up as necessary and every year doing an oil analysis.

FWIW, I still change oil on the the wife's 2K4.2A6 every 8K miles and oil analysis says the oil is good. Got 155+K miles on it so far. The S6 is supposed to go 10K miles between oil changes but I often do it at 8K. Factory oil change interval is 10K on the 02S6 and 8K on the 2K4.2A6. Amsoil 5W-40 Euro spec full synthetic.

Fair disclosure, LIfetime Amsoil Dealer.

Default 2002 Avant 3.0

I bought my Avant with 21,000 miles on it. The prescribed service interval with synthetic Mobil 1 was 10,000 miles. I did that and changed timing belt when it was due. Today the car has 339,000 miles. I've changed all the struts, the catalytic converter, brakes of course, and for a while I was changing coils it seemed like every six months or so until Audi did a recall. This has been the greatest car I have ever owned. Right now due to financial setbacks the car is sitting in the driveway waiting for some much needed TLC. I think I will get 500,000 out of this car once I put a little money and time into it.

I am glad to hear the 3.0L can go 339k miles. When did you change the struts? Mine is just 136k. Coils were recalled. T/Belt just done. I use Mobil-1 synthetic 0W40 that is Audi approved.

You should receive some sort of award. This must be a record in a 3.0

One correction: your car does not have struts.

Sorry to bring up an older post, but after throwing my 03ar 6spd with 241k on craigslist as a feeler, and hearing peoples responces and lack of knowledge of audi longevity, I have almost fallen in love with car all over again. I would get emails of complete astonishment, one person almost couldn't believe the car was drivable, as if the motor was so tired it could barely move out of its way! So with all the negative feedback I have now decided that selling my ar is not an option and am going to make it a point to just keep rackin' up the miles. So good luck to all you high milage audi owners, take pride in driving a car that's been around the block a few times...or the world for that matter!

Is the 3.0L really that bad? Mine has about 124k on it and is running very well (after a few repairs).

do you mind elaborating on that? I'm quite curious why it's hours not distance (is it because it factors in idle time?)

The best measure is HP-Hours, and cold-start cycles.
Hours are easiest surrogate in a aircraft and miles in a car.

Agreed, but type of driving is incredibly important to an engines longevity. doing 100k in stop start traffic with an average speed of 10mph is going to wear an engine more than cruising at 80mph for 100k!

My 2.7t now has 184k miles and sings like a bird of paradise with the majority of its horses still alive and well under the bonnet. However it did need its first clutch last year at 170k miles....

....
So you want to go to an hour meter on the engine?

100K at 10 MPH is 10K hours
100K at 80 MPH is 1.25K hours. If it makes 100K in stop and go, should it make 800K on the highway?
